Flower Care Steps – From Arrival to Arrangement

 1: Unpack and Inspect

• Unpack and Inspect: Remove your Agapanthus from the box.  Cut away any straps but leave your Agapanthus in its protective covering for the first 4 hours of hydration. Inspect each stem for any signs of shipping stress. Don't be alarmed if the blooms appear slightly thirsty—they will quickly revive with proper hydration. Notify us immediately if there are any problems.
• Process Immediately: Begin conditioning your stems as soon as they arrive. Begin the steps below immediately upon opening the box to ensure your flowers rehydrate and recover from their journey. Again, don’t worry if they appear sleepy or thirsty—they will perk up beautifully with proper care.

 2: Prepare the Containers

• Use Clean Buckets or Vases: Start with clean, sanitized containers free of soap residue, dirt, and bacteria.
• Add Fresh Water: Fill each container with at least 4 inches of cool, fresh water. We recommend filling your hydrating buckets half full with clean water.
• Flower food is optional but can help extend vase life. If using flower food, ensure you follow package instructions on proper dosing.  If you are unable to measure the correct ratio of food to water, it is best NOT to use flower food.

Step 3: Trim and Place in Water

• Remove Lower Foliage: Strip away any leaves that would sit below the waterline to help keep the water clean.  We recommend removing all foliage that you will not be using in your final arrangements.
• Cut the Stems: Using clean, sharp floral shears, trim approximately 1 - 2 inches from the bottom of each stem at a 45-degree angle. This fresh cut allows the stems to absorb water more efficiently.
• Place and Space: Transfer the freshly cut stems into your prepared buckets without delay. Allow enough room in your container for your Agapanthus to bloom properly.

4: Hydrate and Maintain

• Hydration Time: After the initial 4-hour hydration period, remove protective packaging and strip additional leaves (if applicable). We recommend hydrating your flowers for 24 hours before arranging.
• Re-cut and Space: Give your flowers another fresh cut and place them in your prepared buckets. You may need to spread your stems out into more buckets to give them even more room to bloom. It is important not to overcrowd your buckets. 
• Monitor Water Levels: Agapanthus are heavy drinkers when they first arrive. Check water levels regularly and refill as needed to ensure stems remain fully hydrated. If the water drops below the stems, refill immediately and recut them before placing them back in the container.
• Store in a Cool Location: To keep agapanthus from aging too fast, we recommend keeping them in as cool a location as possible.  

 5: Time to Design:

• Ready to Arrange: After completing the hydration and processing steps above, your Agapanthus is ready to use.
• Recut and Maintain: Give each stem a fresh angled cut before placing it into your final arrangement for optimal water uptake
• Refresh Regularly: Change the water every 2–3 days and recut stems every 24-48 hours to keep flowers fresh.

Petal Pointers:

• Agapanthus blooms naturally open from the bottom of the flower head upward. If some florets are still closed, simply allow a little more time—they'll continue opening beautifully.
• Keep flower heads above the rim of buckets or vases to prevent bruising.
• For the longest vase life, store your flowers in a cool location and avoid direct sunlight.
• Use a floral finishing spray after your arrangement is complete to help it last longer.

Recommended Supplies:

• 5-gallon bucket: 1 bucket will hold a maximum of 4 bunches for hydration.
