Since we ship our Carnations straight from our farms, they will often arrive in tight bud form and may require at least 4-7 days to open up. Once they open, each bud will continue to open in succession, providing a very long vase life of color. We strongly suggest scheduling a delivery date at least 4 days before your event. If your event is on a Saturday, we recommend having these delivered on the Monday before. Because they have such a great vase life, you can even get these in 6-8 days before your event.

Please note: It takes 7 days for your flowers to reach your doorstep from our farms. Therefore, you must order your flowers at least 7 days before you want your flowers to arrive, aka your delivery date, to allow for proper processing and shipping time.

Your flowers may arrive looking a little tired or thirsty after their journey. This is completely normal — think of it like how you’d feel after a long international flight, wedged into the middle seat the whole way: a little rumpled and definitely not at your freshest. Your flowers feel the same way. A fresh trim on the stems, a good drink of water, and some time to hydrate (flower relaxation time) will help them perk up quickly.

Care Instructions

Flower Care Steps – From Arrival to Arrangement

1: Unpack and Inspect

Unpack and Inspect: Cut any straps to remove flowers from the box, but leave their protective packaging on for the first 4 hours of hydration. As you unpack, check your blooms for any visible concerns.
Process Immediately: Begin the steps below immediately upon opening the box to ensure your flowers rehydrate and recover from their journey. Again, don’t worry if they appear sleepy or thirsty—they will perk up beautifully with proper care.

2: Prepare the Containers

Choose Clean Buckets or Vases: Ensure your containers are clean and sanitized to remove soap residue, bacteria, and dirt, which can shorten the life of flowers.
Fill Containers: Add at least 4 inches of cool, fresh water, then add flower food if available.

Step 3: Trim and Place in Water

Remove Foliage Below the Waterline: Strip leaves that will fall below the waterline to prevent mold or bacterial growth.
Cut Stems Correctly: Use clean, sharp floral shears to cut stems diagonally about 1 inch from the bottom. Avoid household scissors, as they pinch the stems and block water absorption.
Place and Space: Place the freshly cut stems immediately into the prepared water, ensuring there is enough space in each container for the flowers to bloom properly.

4: Hydrate and Maintain

Hydration Time: After the initial 4-hour hydration period, remove protective packaging and strip additional leaves and thorns (if applicable).
Re-cut and Space: Give your flowers another fresh cut and place them in your prepared buckets. You may need to spread your stems out into more buckets to give them even more room to bloom. It is important not to overcrowd your buckets. Allow your flowers to continue to hydrate for another 8 hours before beginning the design process.
Store in a Cool Place: Keep flowers in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, drafts, and heat. Avoid placing them in a refrigerator, as this can harm flowers.
Monitor Water Levels: Flowers drink heavily upon arrival, so check frequently to ensure all stems are always submerged. If the water drops below the stems, refill immediately and recut them before placing them back in the container.

5: Time to Design

Ready to Arrange: After completing the hydration and processing steps above, your flowers are now ready for design.
Recut and Maintain: As you design, make sure to recut the stems and maintain water levels.
Refresh Regularly: Change water daily and recut stems every 24-48 hours to keep flowers fresh.

Petal Pointers:

Always keep flower buds above the rim of the bucket or vase to prevent bruising and damage to delicate blooms.

Warm environments encourage flowers to open more quickly, while cooler temperatures help slow the blooming process. Adjust storage conditions as needed, but always avoid direct sunlight and excessive heat. After arranging, use a floral finishing spray to help keep blooms fresh and extend their longevity.

Carnation Cut Flower Care instructions:

1. As soon as you receive your flowers, open their box(es) and cut strapping to remove flowers.
2. Short Carnations are shipped in growers bunches, each bunch contains 25 stems of carnations.
3. Remove any green foliage that will fall below the water line from the bottom of the bouquet stem. Any foliage that falls below the waterline will form bacteria and effect the life of your flowers and the blooming process.
4. Cut 1/2 to 1 inch off the bottom of each carnation stem, preferably at an angle, and immediately place in prepared water.
5. Place flowers in fresh, cool water out of direct sunlight, extreme temperatures and drafts. Use of Floral food is recommended. Let Carnations hydrate for at least 4 hours, 12 or more hours is recommended.
6. Check water levels frequently. Fresh cut flowers consume a lot of water when hydrating. Keep water levels high and water fresh.

Quick Tips:

1.. You may receive carnations that are still in bud form. They will open naturally following this process over 2 - 3 days. If you need to open them sooner, place freshly cut carnation stems in very warm (not hot) water and in a warm (not hot) room while hydrating. You may need to refresh with warm water after 3-4 hours.
2. If you need the carnations to open sooner, you may "force" the bloom by gently rolling the base of the carnation head between your thumb and forefinger. Gently roll carnation bloom back and forth, and lightly "fluff" open the petals until the carnation head opens. Immediately place in cool water.
